5 Ways to Stay Grounded Over Summer: How To Maintain Your Routines Throughout the Summer
The summer season brings with it a sense of adventure, relaxation, and a break from the usual routines. While it's tempting to let go of structure entirely, maintaining your routines during this time can help you stay grounded, balanced, and connected to your wellbeing.
Here's how you can keep your routines going strong throughout the summer:
Prioritise Self-Care: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your daily routine. Even if your schedule is more flexible during the summer, continue to prioritise activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Whether it's meditation, yoga, reading, or taking walks in nature, carve out dedicated time for it. Remind yourself that self-care is essential for your overall wellbeing, and let it be a non-negotiable aspect of your summer routine.
Adapt Your Routine: Recognise that summer brings changes in weather, daylight, and potential travel plans. Embrace adaptability by modifying your routine to align with the season. Adjust your waking and sleeping times, modify your exercise routine to include outdoor activities or summer sports, and incorporate seasonal fruits and vegetables into your meals. By adapting your routine to suit the summer season, you maintain consistency while embracing the unique opportunities this time of year offers.
Set Realistic Goals: During the summer, it's common to have different priorities and expectations. Set realistic goals that align with your current circumstances. Consider the activities or projects you want to focus on during this time and incorporate them into your routine. Set manageable daily or weekly goals that allow you to make progress while still leaving room for relaxation and enjoyment. By being intentional about your goals, you can maintain a sense of purpose and accomplishment throughout the summer.
Create a Summer Schedule: Maintain a sense of structure by creating a summer schedule. It doesn't need to be as rigid as your regular routine, but having a loose framework can help you stay organised and ensure that important activities and self-care practices are still prioritised. Block out time for work, personal projects, social activities, and moments of relaxation. A schedule provides a sense of direction and reduces the likelihood of feeling overwhelmed or scattered during the summer months.
Seek Accountability and Support: Enlist the support of a friend, family member, or accountability partner to help you stay on track with your routines. Share your goals and commitments with them and encourage each other to stick to your routines throughout the summer. Accountability and support can provide the motivation and encouragement you need to stay consistent, even when the temptation to veer off course arises.
Remember, routines are not meant to be rigid or restrictive. They are tools that help you maintain balance, stability, and a sense of wellbeing. By adapting your routines, setting realistic goals, creating a schedule, and seeking support, you can stay grounded and maintain a sense of routine throughout the summer while still enjoying the unique experiences and relaxation this season brings.
If you feel overwhelmed a great task that I find is helpful is brain dumping. It’s basically getting everything out of your head onto paper, so that you are unloading it and it frees up your mind. You can then make lists of things you want to do, jobs that need doing or anything that might be bothering you and then plan your week ahead. If you’d like help with brain dumping, check out my brain dump planner on my website.
